Motorsport Emergency Response & Care

This course is designed to equip participants with the advanced skills and knowledge required to effectively respond to emergencies in the high-stakes environment of motorsports. The course is ideal for first responders, safety personnel, and healthcare providers in motorsports events. Participants will learn essential units of competency necessary to provide immediate and efficient care in high-pressure situations.

Course Objectives 

  • To train participants in advanced emergency response techniques specifically tailored to motorsport incidents.
  • To develop proficiency in managing critical injuries and providing stabilising care until further medical assistance arrives.
  • To ensure familiarity with motorsport-specific protocols, safety procedures, and communication methods.


Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Demonstrate competency in advanced first aid, provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy, provide emergency care for suspected spinal injuries, manage first aid services and resources, and provide pain management within a motorsport context.

This course is delivered through a combination of theoretical instruction, written assessments, hands-on practice and interactive simulations to ensure that participants are well prepared to handle the unique challenges of motorsport emergency response.

This course has been mapped against the QA Level 4 Award in Motorsport Emergency Response and Care (RQF) Qualification Specification from the United Kingdom. The following Australian nationally Recognised qualifications will be awarded to successful participants at the completion of course:

  • HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID014 - Provide Advanced First Aid
  • HLTAID015 – Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
  • HLTAID016 – Manage first aid services and resources
  • PUAEME007 – Provide emergency care for suspected spinal injury
  • PUAEME008 – Provide Pain Management

Core Units of Competency 

Advanced First Aid and Trauma Management

  • Conducting primary and secondary assessment
  • Managing severe trauma, fractures and critical bleeding
  • Applying life-saving measures including CPR, AED usage, and airway management
  • Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy


Emergency Spinal Management and Care

  • Recognising signs of spinal injuries and providing stabilising support
  • Correct use of spinal boards, cervical collars, and other immobilising equipment
  • Safely moving and transporting injured individuals with suspected spinal injuries.


Pain Management and Methoxyflurane Administration

  • Understanding the principles of pain management in trauma care.
  • Self-administration of Methoxyflurane for pain relief, including dosage, indications and contraindications.


High-Risk Motorsport Environment Awareness

  • Understanding the unique risks associated with motorsport events, including vehicle hazards, fire risks, and extreme noise levels.
  • Adhering to personal safety protocols and wearing appropriate protective equipment.
  • Collaborating effectively with race officials and other emergency teams during response scenarios.


Practical Simulations and Scenario Based Training

  • Engaging and realistic simulations of common motorsport incidents
  • Practicing communication, coordination and team work in emergency scenarios
  • Developing confidence and speed in decision-making under pressure
